Our
Story

As all great love stories do... ours began with single sign on and multi-factor authentication. It took a little Chicago magic to bring us together in person. Derek flew in from Minneapolis for Dead & Company at Wrigley Field, and stopped by the office, where he met Caroline face-to-face for the first time. That same trip, a lucky break — an extra ticket to a Taylor Swift candlelight dinner — turned into our first date.

Derek flew back to Chicago soon after for our first official date at Geja's Café in Lincoln Park, and from there, the distance never stood a chance. For three years, with Caroline in River North and Derek in Minneapolis, we made it work, filling the miles between us with adventures: Japan, Napa Valley, Red Rocks, Tulum, Cape Cod, Grand Marais, and back to Caroline's home state, North Carolina.

On March 20th, 2026, Derek proposed in Chicago, catching Caroline completely by surprise. We celebrated that night the same way our story began — over dinner at Geja's Café. Three months later, Caroline made the move to Minnesota, closing the distance for good.

Now, we're excited to say "I do" in March 2027.

Traveling to our wedding at the Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya, you have two airport options.

  • Cancún International Airport (CUN) which offers the widest selection of flights and is approximately a 1 to 1.5-hour drive to the resort.
  • Tulum International Airport (TQO) which is closer—about a 45- to 60-minute drive—but currently has fewer nonstop flights and airline options.

We will be providing complimentary airport shuttles for select arrivals on Friday and departures on Monday. Additional details, including shuttle schedules, will be shared closer to the wedding.

If your flight falls outside of the scheduled shuttle times, we will provide recommendations and information for arranging alternative transportation.

A valid US passport is required for travel to Mexico. No visa is required for US citizens for tourism stays under 180 days.

We recommend ensuring your passport is valid for at least 6 months beyond your travel dates.

Questions about travel? We're happy to help. Reach out at any time and we'll point you in the right direction — we want getting there to be as easy as possible.

About Conrad Tulum
& Things To Do

Set along a stretch of powder-white sand on the Riviera Maya, the Conrad Tulum pairs barefoot-luxury with jungle-meets-coastline design — cascading infinity pools, oceanfront suites, and an open-air spa tucked into the mangroves.

It's the backdrop for our ceremony and reception, and just as perfect a place to unwind before or after — whether that's a morning swim, a spa afternoon, or simply watching the sun rise over the Caribbean.

The Conrad Tulum is home to 11 restaurants and bars, offering everything from beachfront lunches and poolside cocktails to sushi, Mediterranean cuisine, and elevated chef-driven dining experiences.

A daily breakfast buffet at Arbolea is included for all guests staying within our wedding room block. The Conrad is not an all-inclusive resort by default — lunch, dinner, snacks, and beverages may be purchased à la carte or through the resort's optional All-Inclusive Dining Package.

We've rounded up some of our favorite recommendations below!

Most excursions can be booked directly through the Conrad concierge or in advance with local tour operators.

You don't have to leave the resort to have an incredible vacation.

The Conrad Tulum offers a beautiful private beach, multiple pools, a world-class spa, fitness center, complimentary water sports, and a variety of restaurants and bars throughout the property. Daily activities such as yoga, cultural experiences, and wellness classes are also available.

As part of our wedding celebration, all guests receive 15% off spa treatments at the Conrad Tulum Spa.

Swim In a Cenote

One of the Riviera Maya's most unique experiences is swimming in a cenote—natural freshwater sinkholes filled with crystal-clear water. Some of the area's most popular cenotes include Dos Ojos, Gran Cenote, Taak Bi Ha, and Sac Actun.

Visit Kaan Luum Lagoon

Known for its stunning shades of turquoise, Kaan Luum Lagoon is one of the area's hidden gems with a deep cenote located in the center of the lagoon.

Explore the Tulum Ruins

Perched atop dramatic limestone cliffs overlooking the Caribbean Sea, the Tulum Ruins are one of Mexico's most iconic archaeological sites. Wander through the ancient Mayan city while enjoying breathtaking ocean views, then spend the afternoon exploring nearby beaches, restaurants, or shops.

Visit Chichén Itzá

One of the New Seven Wonders of the World.

Explore Cobá

Cobá offers ancient Mayan ruins nestled deep within the jungle. Guests can walk or bike through the expansive site while discovering temples, pyramids, and lush tropical scenery.

Discover the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sian Ka'an is one of the most beautiful natural areas in Mexico. Boat tours take guests through mangroves, lagoons, and untouched coastline.

Spend the Day at Xcaret

If you're looking for a full-day adventure, Xcaret is one of the Riviera Maya's most famous attractions. Part eco-park, part cultural experience, and part adventure park, it features underground rivers, snorkeling, wildlife exhibits, beaches, aquariums, and the spectacular "México Espectacular" evening show.

Snorkel with Sea Turtles in Akumal

Just a short drive from the resort, Akumal Bay is one of the best places in the world to snorkel alongside wild green sea turtles in their natural habitat. Guided tours are available and often include additional snorkeling stops along the reef.

Adventure at Xplor

Xplor offers zip lines through the jungle, underground cave rivers, amphibious ATV vehicles, and exciting cave adventures.

PGA Riviera Maya

An 18-hole championship course managed by the PGA, set along the Caribbean coastline with ocean-view holes and lush jungle surroundings — a great option for guests looking to play a round during their stay.

El Camaleón

Home to the PGA TOUR's Mexico Open, this Greg Norman–designed championship course in Mayakoba winds through mangroves, jungle, and beachfront terrain — one of the most scenic and technically challenging courses in the region.

Puerto Aventuras Golf

A relaxed 9-hole, par-3 executive course set within the Puerto Aventuras marina community, offering ocean views and a shorter, more casual round for golfers of any level.

A Few Tips

  • Many tours include transportation directly from the Conrad.
  • If you're interested in multiple excursions, consider booking them before your trip, especially during busy travel seasons.
  • Bring biodegradable sunscreen for cenotes and eco-parks to help protect these incredible natural environments.
  • Comfortable shoes, swimsuits, towels, and cash for gratuities are always a good idea!

Frequently Asked
Questions

While we love your little ones, our wedding will be an adults-only celebration, with the exception of immediate family. We hope this gives everyone the chance to relax and enjoy the night — and maybe even treat it as a bit of a getaway.

Our dress code is tropical elegance — think elevated resort wear with a touch of coastal glamour. Flowing dresses, linen suits, and light fabrics are perfect for a beachside evening in Tulum. See the Dress Code section above for more detail, and please leave the jeans and sneakers at home.

Both ceremony and reception will take place outdoors on Carbon Beach, with cocktail hour in the adjacent Carbon Garden. Mexico in March is warm and mostly dry, but we recommend bringing a light wrap for the evening breeze.

Due to venue capacity, we're only able to accommodate the guests specifically named on your invitation and RSVP. Please check your invite for the number of seats reserved in your party, and reach out to us directly if you have any questions.
